Cumbria -v- Cheshire at Hale Golf Club

We received a lovely warm welcome from Cheshire Captain Tiff Fielden and President Nancy Lane. It was also nice for VC Rose to meet Cheshire Vice Captain Mo Richardson.
This was our first match of the season and we knew that it would be a tough one against the 2025 champions. We arrived for the practice match in fine weather with sporadic sunshine.
When we arrived on Monday 1st June for the match the weather was very changeable with intermittent showers but this did not dampen the spirits of Team Cumbria who were Brenda Ewbank, Nic Tebbutt, Kathryn Bulman, Margaret Shepherd, Janette McWhirter, Sue Cotter, Rosie Waller and reserve Sharron Simpson.
The matches were very closely fought but Cheshire managed to secure a 6:1 win. The final result did not reflect the quality of the golf played. Janette won the 17th to go down the 18th 1 up and halved the 18th to win the match 1 up. Well done to Janette. Although it was a nine hole course it was still quite tough with tricky greens. Cheshire held their championships on this course which must have been helpful for the Cheshire players.
Thanks go to Vice Captain Rose for her support and President Alyson Wood who kept us all in bananas and chocolates and doubled up as a caddy to Janette!
