Richardson Trophy Match v Northumberland 2024

Alnmouth Golf Club, Thursday 30th May 2024

Cumbria 5 points - Northumberland 2 points

Cumbria’s first match was against Northumberland at the challenging and very scenic Alnmouth Golf Club, known widely as Foxton Hall. The squad, having been greeted by Northumberland Captain Su Cummings, played a practice round in lovely calm conditions to begin with but left the course after 13 holes or so as thunder and dark clouds rolled in, perhaps an omen for the forthcoming match conditions!

Sure enough, we woke to strong winds and rain which got progressively persistent as we drove to Alnmouth but Cumbrians are made of stern stuff and the team of Brenda Ewbank, Kathryn Bulman, Janette McWhirter, Nic Tebbutt, Fliss Holloway, Rosie Waller and Sue Cotter proved to be up for the task in hand, being victorious with a 5 points to 2 points win. Vice Captain Judy Davidson provided excellent support and encouragement throughout from the relative safe confines of her buggy, braving the conditions to be the unofficial team photographer before retreating back to the safety of her umbrella.

Congratulations to all the players and caddies who never gave up in what were extremely challenging and tough conditions. As always, the matches were played with determination, sportsmanship and camaraderie from both teams which was a pleasure to watch, despite driving rain and strong winds.

Thanks must go to Su and her team, the staff and caterers at Alnmouth for looking after us so well. We wish Su and her team all the very best for their future matches.

Finally, huge congratulations to the entire Cumbrian squad and officials for the excellent start of our 2024 campaign. So pleased and proud of you all.

Richardson Trophy Matches 2023

Cumbria hosted the second Richardson Trophy match at Appleby golf club against Northumberland on 14th June 2023

The conditions were once again windy but at least it was a lot warmer than our first match.

Our champion Brenda got us off to a great start by winning her match and our vice captain Joan winning her first match. Rosie Waller managed a half but unfortunately the rest the the results went Northumberlands way.

The result Northumberland 4 1/2, Cumbria 2 1/2.

RICHARDSON TROPHY MATCH NORTHUMBERLAND V CUMBRIA

The team travelled to Hexham Golf Club to play Northumberland in our final Richardson Trophy match.

After the practice round and later some excellent team bonding we were all in high spirits for the match the following day

Hexham Golf course was in great condition.

The team rose to the occasion and had a great 4 – 3 win.

A big thanks to Northumberland for providing a lovely meal and the courtesy of the course.

A great way to finish all the matches and my thanks go to the squad for their wonderful support this year.

Also a big thanks to President Helena for her support and providing us with the goodies to eat.

Dry day at Silloth with a very cold northerly wind making the course tricky to play. Much warmer once the sun came out. Great to see so many supporters from Cumbria again. We were all treated to some great golf a real battle between Kathryn and Claire leading the field; a halve was a super result. Janette with a recent tooth operation was not deterred from winning her match. Nicola and Sue keeping up their winning streaks and Rosie reliable as always. Well done girls a great result 4^1/2 to 2^1/2 very proud of you all.

Very pleased to have Serena the Silloth lady captain with us again and great hospitality from the club as always.
