Durham Match

Cumbria travelled to Houghton le Spring golf course to play against Durham in our 3rd Richardson Trophy match on Tuesday 27th June .

Having lost in our first 2 matches we resorted to get into the ‘spirit' more, hence propping up the bar for our Photo shoot.

This was having celebrated our county champion Brenda Ewbank's big birthday the night before.

Whether it was lack of sleep or the odd glass of wine, it helped us keep our eyes looking down at the ball.

Wins from Kathryn Bulman, Nikki Tebbutt, Janette McWhirter and a fighting half from Rosie Waller helped the team to halve the match with Durham.Two other matches lost on the 18th.

Durham were brilliant hosts and good company. Thanks to Pauline, Durham county captain, for organising the match.

RICHARDSON TROPHY MATCH CUMBRIA V DURHAM

We welcome Durham to Furness for our last home match.

For their practice day the course played like a true links. Very breezy, tight lies and fast and firm fairways.

On the day of the match the wind dropped.

Janette lead the team out against their Champion and battled hard to win her match 1up. Brenda followed by a good win. Nikki had a close match but unfortunately lost on 18. Trudy joined the team and was on her usual form to win her match. After a close game with my opponent I managed to hang on to clinch victory 3 -1.

The match was played in great spirit and the result was a win for Cumbria 4 – 3.

I would life to thank Furness again for allowing us the courtesy of the course and to Mr Captain for putting the scores and photos on the tv screen.

Also Christopher for the meal and not to forget Madame President for all the snacks.

2021

Another hot day and this time at Brancepeth Castle Golf Club in Durham. Very pretty course, fortunately there was a cooling breeze and a little cloud cover later on. Brenda was still unable to join us and also Janette as she had to self-isolate due to being track and traced. Fliss Holloway came in at the last minute as a very welcome new member. Without a practice round and playing an opponent on her own course she put up a great fight. As ever the squad battled on. Kathryn had a great win against their champion, Nicola won the 17^th and 18^th to halve her match. Rosie led from the start and had a great win and Alyson had a super win as well. The match was played in great spirit and Brancepeth made everyone very welcome Lady Captain Margaret
